May 2018

On a lovely sunny evening last month, we enjoyed a very interesting and informative talk by Jenny Tidman, we now know how to grow and use the herbs we have in our gardens. The competition a ‘Posy of Herbs’ was won by Jane with Debbie second, well done both. Thank you to Pauline, Janice and Cathie for the delicious refreshments. We were pleased to see three visitors and hope they enjoyed the talk.

Denise is attending the National Federation of Women’s Institutes Annual Meeting in Cardiff on the 6th June where the resolution “Mental health matters as much as physical health” will be discussed and voted on. There will also be two guest speakers, Dame Stella Rimington and Huw Edwards so I am sure it will be an interesting, informative and hopefully fun day.

Our meeting on Monday 11th June is a talk by Elizabeth Ferry called “Norland Nannies” which should be very interesting and I am sure there will be some funny stories. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and is in the Committee room of the Village Hall.

We are now onhttp://www.minety.net and the Facebook group “Minety - What’s Happening” so if you lose the news letter you can catch up with us there.

Visitors are always welcome, if you are interested and don’t want to come on your own, we can always arrange to meet you on arrival or pick you up and bring you to the meeting.

Elizabeth Ferry a former Norland Nanny and now a tutor at the Norland College told us the history of the school, that was started in1892 by Emily Ward who believed that children and babies should be looked after by girls who had been educated to a high standard. The school was started in Norland Place in London and after a few moves is now in a purpose-built college in Bath and they train both women and men as Nannies. Norland Nannies currently look after the children of the Cambridge’s “of course”.
Thank you to Margaret Dobbs and Margaret Godfrey for the delicious refreshments served to our members and seven visitors.

Denise attended the National Federation of Women’s Institutes Annual Meeting in Cardiff on the 6th June where the resolution “Mental health matters as much as physical health” was be discussed and was passed with 98% majority. The two guest speakers, Dame Stella Rimington and Huw Edwards were interesting and informative.

On Monday 9th July Jon Coward talk is called “Liquorice Heaven” he will tell us about liquorice and also bring samples, so if you like liquorice then come along to the Village Hall at 7.30pm for a taste. This month we have a competition which is “Some Home Made Sweets” so get baking.
