February 2019

We hosted the Group Carol Service at Minety Church in December which was enjoyed by everyone and the collection raised £105 which is being donated to Dressability, a small charity that creates and alters clothes for the disabled.

For our first meeting of 2019 Malcom Lewis took us back in time with “Signature Tunes”. It was a nostalgic afternoon listening to the theme tunes we heard on the radio when we were children and to learn about the composers and actors who took part in the programmes. Thank you to Marion and Chris for the delicious refreshments.

If you have pets our next meeting is one you won’t want to miss when Mike Hollywood from The George Vets talks about “What’s new in parasite control for our pets”.
I am sure Mike will make it an interesting and informative session, it will take place on Monday 11th February starting at 2.30pm in the committee room of Minety Village Hall.

On Monday 25th March we are arranging a visit to Bath Fashion Museum to see an exhibition dedicated to the fashions of Royal Women. We are going by car share or train, so if you are interested do get in touch. Entry to the exhibition is £9.50 or £8.50 over 65.

Visitors are always welcome, if you are interested and don’t want to come on your own, we can always arrange to meet you on arrival or pick you up and bring you to the meeting.

April 2019

It has come to the end of our WI year so March was our Annual Meeting which started with a glass of bubbly. Debbie reminded us of all the things we had done in the last 12 months which had been another busy year. The highlights were the trip to the Royal Mint and the tour of Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery. We also had a number of interesting and entertaining speakers and events such as a Suffragette coffee morning which raised money for ACWW and Swindon Women’s Refuge, the Forest Group Carol Service was well attended and the collection was donated to Dressability.
Denise thanked everyone for their support to her not just for this year but for the 3 years of her time as president. The Dorothy Meakin cup was awarded to Carol Harrison for gaining the most competition points, well done Carol.
After refreshments a number of members read out funny poems which meant we all went home with a smile.

A new committee was elected.
President Carol Harrison
Vice President Janet Elston
Secretary Deanna West
Treasurer Yvonne Sheppard
Programme Secretary Liz Watson
Refreshments Di Tweedale
We wish the new committee all the best for the coming year.

On Monday 8th April Matthew Sprotson is coming to entertain us with “The Life and Times of Victoria Wood” our meeting will be in the Main Hall starting at 7.30pm. So why not join us and hear some interesting and humorous stories about Victoria Wood.

On Wednesday 22nd May we are having a tour of the TWIGS community garden in Swindon, this will be followed by a cream tea. The event will be £9.50 plus car share travel costs, so put this date in your diary now.

Visitors are always welcome, if you are interested and don’t want to come on your own, we can always arrange to meet you on arrival or pick you up and bring you to the meeting.
