OCTOBER 2017

Malcom Lewis stepped in at short notice as our original speaker couldn’t make it, so instead of Mindfulness and Meditation we had music and singing. Malcom made the afternoon very entertaining not only telling us about the lives of Rodgers and Hammerstein and other musical and lyrical collaborations, but he also played lots of music from the musicals that they had written, which brought back many memories for us, the songs were still going around in my head as I drove home. Thank you to Marion and Janet for delicious refreshments.

On Wednesday 11th October Di and myself travelled down to Salisbury to attend the WI Annual Council meeting, after the usual business we were entertained by two very good speakers, firstly Fred Gillam introduced us to Otzi the iceman a mummified body 5,300 years old found high up in the Alps, it was just amazing how much DNA can tell us. Our second speaker was Mandy Hickson a former RAF Tornado pilot and only one of 7 female fighter jet pilots in Britain she was both funny, interesting and inspiring. The High Sheriff of Wiltshire Lady Penny Marland also told us what her 12-month appointment entails.

Monday 13th November at 2.30pm Cherry Hubbard will treat us to a “Tudor Christmas” we won’t be tasting the food she brings, I am not sorry as I don’t think I would like to eat Swan! There will be tea and refreshments from this century as usual. We have a competition this month it is “A Christmas Decoration” for the table or hanging.

Please can anyone going to our Christmas Lunch let Wendy have your choices and money before our next meeting.

We are now onhttp://www.minety.net so if you lose the news letter you can catch up with us there.

Visitors are always welcome, if you are interested and don’t want to come on your own, we can always arrange to meet you on arrival or pick you up and bring you to the meeting.

NOVEMBER 2017

Cherry Hubbard’s “Tudor Christmas” on Monday 13th November was informative and interesting. She had baked many items and made salads that the Tudors would have eaten at Christmas, it was surprising just how many foods were familiar to us today but of course in Tudor times this was only for the upper classes. Thank you for the delicious refreshments served by Margaret Danford and Pauline Shelbourne. The competition this month was “A Christmas Decoration” and was won by Yvonne with a beautiful table decoration and Marion with a sweet doll tree decoration.

December is our Christmas meal at la Flambe, drivers will be arranged shortly, we need to arrive by 12.30pm for 1pm. Don’t forget your Secret Santa gift.

I can’t believe the year is almost over! On Monday 8th January 2018 at 2.30pm we are having a craft afternoon when we are doing Dip and Dye silk scarves, the scarf will cost £8 each the workshop is open to anyone, please let Denise know if you wish to come along as she will ensure that scarves are available for everybody. If you don’t wish to dye a scarf you are still welcome to come along and have a chat and cup of tea.

We are now onhttp://www.minety.net so if you lose the news letter you can catch up with us there.
